Field Hockey Celebrates Senior Day Before Season Finale with Susquehanna

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey squad fell in their 2017 season finale by a score of 4-0 to Susquehanna University Saturday afternoon on John Makuvek Field as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Day.

The Greyhounds' defense held the River Hawks to a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission after taking 20 shots, with 12 being on target. Moravian got one shot that went wide of the cage by freshman midfielder Erica Heaney in the 22nd minute. Both goals in the first half came within a five-minute span, the first in the 25th minute and the second in the 29th.  

Susquehanna would add two more goals in the second half to extend their lead to 4-0. Heaney would get another shot on goal in the second half that was blocked, then freshman defender Nicole Grayuski would fire a shot on cage that was saved. A defensive save was made by sophomore defender Haley Wrazien in the 45th minute and Grayuski had another opportunity in the 66th minute that was saved yet again.

"Today's game was a good view of the progress the team has made throughout season," stated Head Coach Kristen Gillis. "We were looking to end on a high note in terms of knowing we ended the season a better team than we began. The players are looking forward to putting in time during the off season and excited for what the future holds."

Moravian freshman goalie Ashley Kunsman started in the cage and had ten saves in the first half of action and added one more save in the second half for a game total of 11 saves.

The Greyhounds finished their 2017 campaign by honoring senior defender Katie Morrison prior to the match.
