13 Greyhounds Named to the 2017 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad.

GILBERT, Ariz. --- Thirteen student-athletes from the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2017 ZAG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA while freshman Erica Heaney was named a ZAG/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction.

“This year the entire team put in the effort off the field, and their success in the classroom shined through,” commented Head Coach Kristen Gillis. “As a team we exceeded our goal set in the beginning of the season for overall GPA, which led to our team award and having a high number of players on the academic squad as well. Special congratulations to Erica for obtaining scholar of distinction in her first year, that is quite an accomplishment.”

Moravian was also one of 130 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named a ZAG/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by all seven of their Landmark Conference opponents - The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Elizabethtown College, Goucher College, Juniata College, The University of Scranton and Susquehanna University. The eight Landmark Conference schools combined to have 100 student-athletes named to the National Academic Squad.

Heaney was joined by juniors Emily Duddy and Elizabeth Hrehovcik, sophomores Devyn Lapp, Ashley Magee, Olivia Schlofer and Haley Wrazien and freshmen Samantha DeRogatis, Payton Elling, Talea Gordon, Zoe Karvan, Ashley Kunsman and Courtney Nealon as the Greyhounds named to the National Academic Squad, which includes more than 1,700 student-athletes from 148 schools. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

Heaney earned Scholar of Distinction honors for the first time in her career. The Scholar of Distinction is given to student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. This year, there are 242 student-athletes that earned Scholar of Distinction from 105 schools.

Heaney scored three goals and three assists this past fall for the Greyhounds while Schlofer led the team in scoring with eight goals and an assist. Hrehovcik had five goals and an assist while Karvan added three assists. Magee and Wraizen each had one goal last fall, and Wraizen added defensive save.
