Cruz's Hat Trick Helps Greyhounds Extend Winning Streak to Three in Victory at Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team won its third consecutive match with an 8-1 non-conference victory at Bryn Athyn College Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 3-3 on the year, started the scoring in the sixth minute when sophomore defender Talea Gordon scored her first career goal off of a feed from freshman midfielder Olivia Emrick on a penalty corner. Emrick would also set up the Hounds' second goal with a pass to junior midfielder Olivia Schlofer in the 16th minute for her tenth career goal. Junior forward Sara Cruz doubled the score with two goals in 37 seconds during the 31st minute to send the Blue and Grey into the intermission with a 4-0 advantage.

Bryn Athyn opened the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 41st minute before Moravian tallied four more goals. Junior forward Ashley Magee scored in the 51st minute off of a pass from freshman forward Ava Edwards while freshman forward Kendal Wilkes netted her third goal of the year in the 55th minute. Cruz recorded the program's 18th hat trick when she scored an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute while senior forward Elizabeth Hrehovcik scored off of a pass by Edwards in the 68th minute.

Sophomore goalie Ashley Kunsman played the first half for Moravian while sophomore goalie Sabrina Masone made her first appearance of the year with one save in the second half. The Hounds held a 36-3 advantage in shots and a 26-3 edge in penalty corners in the match.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, September 19 in a non-conference match versus Wilkes University beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
