BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team scored early before falling behind to Wilkes University in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening, and the Greyhounds' late rally came up short in a 3-2 loss.

It didn't take long for the Greyhounds to take a 1-0 lead as sophomore forward Mae Dienes broke down the right side, cut into the middle of circle and beat the goalie through the five-hole for her second goal of the season just 1:47 into the contest.

The Colonels would answer in the 17th minute to knot the score at 1-1, and Wilkes would head to the intermission with a 2-1 lead after scoring on a penalty corner after time had expired in the opening half.

Wilkes scored again in the 43rd minute to extend its advantage to 3-1. The Greyhounds answered and cut the deficit back to one in the 55th minute when freshman forward Kendal Wilkes scored her fourth goal of the season on a penalty stroke. The Blue and Grey would get a penalty corner as time expired but were unable to capitalize on the scoring chance.

Greyhounds' sophomore goalie Ashley Kunsman made nine saves in the contest.

Moravian is scheduled to begin the 2018 Landmark Conference season on Saturday, September 22 when the Blue and Grey host Juniata College on John Makuvek Field with action starting at 1:00 p.m.
