Moravian Field Hockey Team Heading to Spain & Italy from January 9-17

The Moravian field hockey team heads to Spain and Italy from January 9-17, 2019.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team is heading to Spain and Italy on Tuesday, January 8 for nine days of sightseeing and international games. A travel party of 67 including 22 players will depart from Newark Airport for an overnight flight to Barcelona.

This will be Head Coach Kristen Gillis' first European trip with the Greyhounds after finishing her second season with the program.

After landing in Barcelona, Spain on January 9, the Greyhounds will tour the city for two and a half days including a bike tour on January 10 before competing for the first time on Friday, January 11. The squad will have one more day in Barcelona before flying off to Naples, Italy on Sunday, January 13.

The group will spend one and a half days in Naples before heading to Rome on the morning of January 15. The squad will play two local teams in Rome with games on January 15 and 16. The group will finish up the trip on Thursday, January 17 before flying back to Newark that night.

The NCAA allows schools to travel internationally once every three years outside of the traditional season to play games in other countries. The field hockey squad has twice made trips to Bermuda in August of 2009 and 2013.
