BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey team finished off the 2023 regular season with a 6-0 shutout victory over visiting Goucher College on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds posted their third straight shutout and fifth in the last six contests.
How It Happened
- The Hounds needed just 4:24 to take a lead as senior forward Hanna Leto put Moravian's second shot of the contest into the cage
- The Greyhounds scored three times in the second quarter to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission. Sophomore forward Gia Ambrosino started the period with a goal off a pass from senior defender Onalee Long on a penalty corner after Long's initial shot was blocked right back to her in the 20th minute. The Blue & Grey had another penalty corner less than two minutes later when Long knocked in a long shot from the right side. Ambrosino scored again with just 1:38 until halftime as she put a short pass from junior forward Sydney Anderson into the cage
- Neither squad found the net in the third quarter
- Moravian finished off the scoring in the fourth with two more goals in the final seven minutes of action. Sophomore forward Brooke Sodl netted a goal on a pass from Ambrosino while Leto had an unassisted goal to set the final score
Inside the Numbers
- Leto's two goals give her three for the season and seven for her career while Ambrosino raised her team-leading goal tally to eight as she added her first career assist
- Long netted her fourth goal of 2023 and the seventh of her career, and she added her third assist of the fall to raise her career total to eight
- Sodl scored her second goal of the season and fourth of her career while Anderson earned her second assist of the year and ninth of her career
- Freshman goalie Maia Machado made one save in the first quarter and played a total of 35 minutes while sophomore goalie Jessica Knox made her first career appearance as she played 25 minutes in the shutout
- Moravian completed the match with a 24-2 advantage in shots and an 18-3 edge in penalty corners
