Golfers Open with 4th Place at Moravian Fall Invitational

DANIELSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team opened its 2014-15 season by hosting the Moravian Fall Invitational at Woodstone Country Club Thursday afternoon with the Greyhounds placing fourth and the Blue team finishing 15th of the 17 competing teams.

The Greyhounds had a team score of 319 while the Blue team scored 361. Muhlenberg College won the team title with a 307.

Freshman Kevin Kunkle led the Hounds with a three-over-par round of 75 on the par 72 that tied him for second of the 84 golfers in the tournament. Kunkle had 17 pars during his round. Junior Evan Dickinson was tied for sixth overall with a five-over round of 77 that including one birdie and 12 pars while sophomore Dan Leppert fired an 83 with one birdie and seven pars to tie for 31st.

Junior Jim Maru turned in an 84 that also included one birdie and seven pars while freshman Tyler Smith rounded out the squad with a round of 87 with seven pars in his first collegiate action.

Junior James Lobb paced the Blue team with an 80, which was tied for 17th, that saw him make one birdie and 12 pars. Sophomore Aaron Brown turned in a season-opening round of 90 while senior Scott Nevenglosky had a 95 and freshman Matt Miksiewicz carded a 96 in his first collegiate action.

Moravian will return to action on Saturday, September 20 when the squad travels to the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York for the opening round of the 2014-15 Empire 8 Conference Championships.
