Maru's Medalist 71 Leads Hounds to 2nd at Griffin Invitational

AVONDALE, Pa. --- Junior Jim Maru earned medalist honors with a one-over par round of 71 to lead the Moravian College golf team to a second place finish at the Chestnut Hill College Spring Griffin Invitational Tuesday at the Inniscronne Golf Club to begin the 2015 spring season.

The Greyhounds had a team score of 315 while Wilmington (Del.) College captured the team title with a 297.

Maru's 71 on the par 70 course is his lowest round of the season by five strokes as well as a career-best round in his two and a half seasons with the Greyhounds. Maru led the 86 golfers in the tournament Tuesday by shooting a 34 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. He had three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys in the round. Maru edged Andreas Lunding from Wilmington by a stroke for the individual title, the second medalist honor of his career.

"Jim played a really good round of golf considering the conditions today and the lack of practice we have had with the weather," commented Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "It is one of the best rounds of golf I have seen when you consider all of these factors."

Junior Evan Dickinson finished in a tie for 17th with a round of 79 for the Blue & Grey while sophomore Dan Leppert carded an 82 to tie for 35th. Sophomore Aaron Brown shot an 83 for the Greyhounds, which was tied for 38th, while freshman Tyler Smith rounded out the lineup with a round of 84 to finish in a tie for 40th.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 31 at the Alvernia College Spring Invitational teeing off at 12:00 p.m. at the Ledge Rock Golf Club.
