Smith & Beltrami Selected to Empire 8 Spring President's List

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Moravian College golfers sophomore Tyler Smith and junior Anthony Beltrami have been selected to the Empire 8 Athletic Conference 2016 Spring President's List as the Empire 8 honored over 850 student-athletes for their athletics contributions and excellence in the classroom.

Smith competed in 14 of Moravian's 15 rounds during the year, and he earned a spot on the Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team for the second straight season as he tied for ninth with a 72-hole total of 317 in the 2015-16 Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament. Smith averaged 77.93 strokes per round with a season low of 72 when he won medalist honors at the Moravian College Spring Invitational at Woodstone Country Club on April 5. He has a career average of 79.70 in 23 collegiate rounds.

Beltrami competed in 10 of the Hounds' rounds this past season in his first year at Moravian. Beltrami finished the year by averaging 81.70 strokes per round while shooting a season low of 75 at the Moravian College Fall Invitational on September 14.

In the classroom, Smith is majoring in business management with a minor in finance at Moravian, and Beltrami is a business management major as well. Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher during the semester while participating in a conference-sponsored sport.

In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

The Empire 8 recognized a record total of 856 student-athletes from its sponsored sports with the President's List distinction. The previous high was of 806 set last fall.

Additionally, a record number 119 teams were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester.

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a total of 4,369 student-athletes who combined for a Empire 8 wide spring semester grade point average of 3.216, also a new high for the conference.
