Top 10 Games of 2016-17 - #7 Golf Wins John Makuvek Cup by 30 Strokes

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2016-17 athletic campaign. The next event in the top 10 exciting games from the past year is our No. 7 highlight – the golf team winning the John Makuvek Cup by 30 strokes over rival Muhlenberg College and 38 strokes over DeSales University.

The Greyhounds, who finished the year by placing third in the Empire 8 Conference Championships, won their second event of the season and the squad had nine top five team finishes throughout the year.

On the afternoon of October 4, the Hounds, Mules and Bulldogs faced off on the Weyhill Course at Saucon Valley Country Club in the fourth John Makuvek Cup. Moravian won the cup for the second straight year and became the first of the three schools to win the cup twice. The Greyhounds finished with a team score of 297, their first of two straight tournaments under 300, to capture the victory.

Moravian had the top four individuals in the outing with senior Anthony Beltrami and junior Kevin Kunkle each shooting one-over par rounds of 73 to tie for the low round of the day. Beltrami had four birdies and ten pars in his round while Kunkle carded one birdie and 15 pars. Sophomore Joe Rochelle finished third with a 75 that included two birdies and ten pars while junior Tyler Smith fired a 76 with three birdies and 11 pars to take fourth. Senior Dan Leppert was seventh overall with a 78 that had three birdies and six pars.
