Greyhounds Finish Second in Swarthmore-Neumann Invitational to begin 2017-18 Season

WILMINGTON, Del. --- The Moravian College men's golf team opened its 2017-18 season with a runner-up finish at the Swarthmore College-Neumann University Invitational played at the Rock Manor Golf Club Sunday afternoon.

The Greyhounds carded a team score of 306 while the Swarthmore College White squad finished first with a 297 and Chestnut Hill College placed third with a 311.

Moravian senior Tyler Smith was second of the 82 golfers with a one-over par round of 72 that included five birdies and nine pars. Sophomore Nick Kuhn and junior Joe Rochelle were tied for eighth with rounds of 77 with Kuhn carding two birdies and ten pars while Rochelle had three birdies and eight pars. Junior Kody Long turned in a round of 80 with one birdie and eight pars to finish tied for 17th while freshman Thomas Lakata fired an 81 with two birdies and six pars in his first collegiate round to tie for 29th.

"I was very proud of how the guys hung in there today," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "We didn't get off to a great start but the guys really stayed focused and shot much better on the second nine. It was a nice way to get the season started."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 19 at the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Fall Invitational beginning at 12:00 p.m. on the Hershey Country Club East Course.
