Hounds Win Moravian Spring Invitational with 298

BATH, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team finished first of nine teams at the Moravian Spring Invitational Thursday at the Southmoore Golf Course in just the squad's third outing of the spring.

The Hounds registered a four-man team score of 298, finishing 20 strokes ahead of FDU-Florham, and Moravian's "B" team was tied for third with a 320 in the tournament.

"It was great to see the guys come out and play a really solid round after how we started the season," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "Hopefully this will get us going for the rest of the season. I was glad to see so many low individual scores."

The Greyhounds top four players all finished in the 70s, and six of the nine golfers on the squad were below 80. Senior Tyler Smith and freshman Victor Tavares were both tied for second with two-over par rounds of 73 at Southmoore. Smith had three birdies and 10 pars in his round while Tavares, who had the best round of his collegiate career, carded four birdies and nine pars. Senior Kevin Kunkle was fourth of the 46 golfers with a round of 74 that had three birdies and nine pars while freshman Thomas Lakata was tied for 10th with a 78 which included three birdies and eight pars. Junior Joe Rochelle rounded out the squad with a 91 that had five pars.

Sophomore Nick Kuhn led the B team with a round of 77 that was tied for sixth and included one birdie and 11 pars while senior Matt Miksiewicz tied for 12th with a 79 that had one birdie and eight pars. Miksiewicz's round tied the lowest of his Moravian career. Freshman Kody Kolnik was tied for 17th with a round of 80, the best of his college career, which included two birdies and eight pars while junior Kody Long was tied for 27th with an 84 that had two birdies and seven pars included.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Monday, April 16 at the Arcadia University Invitational being played at the Cedarbrook Country Club.
