Hounds One Stroke off Lead After First Day of Inaugural Landmark Conference Championship

MOOSIC, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's golf team is one stroke out of first place after the opening round of the 2018 and inaugural Landmark Conference Championship being hosted by The University of Scranton at the Glenmaura National Golf Course Saturday.

The Greyhounds had a four-man team score of 316, one stroke behind Goucher College. The host Royals are in third place with a score of 328.

Freshman Victor Tavares is in a three-way tie for first place of 34 golfers after an opening round of 77 on the par 71 course. Senior Kevin Kunkle is tied for fourth with a first round of 78 while freshman Thomas Lakata is tied for sixth with a 79. Sophomore Nick Kuhn carded an opening round of 82 and is 13th place while senior Tyler Smith is tied for 23rd with a 90.

The second round of the championship is slated to tee off on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. with the Greyhounds' first tee time at 12:10 p.m. when Kuhn will start. Kuhn was the first to tee off on Saturday as the conference is in its first year of sponsoring golf as a championship sport. The winning team will receive an automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships that will be played from May 15-18 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.
