Men's Basketball Falls to Gettysburg in Season Opener

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team opened its 2014-15 season with a hard-fought 83-69 loss to host Gettysburg College in the opening round of the Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament Saturday evening behind a career-high 20 points from sophomore guard Brandon McGuire in his first career start.

McGuire was one of three Greyhounds to hit double figures in the game, and he also added five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore guard Isaiah Jennings also tossed in a career high with 14 points to go with five boards and three assists while senior guard Izel Dickerson had 16 points and a team-high six rebounds in the game.

Senior forward Garrett Kashmer and freshman guard Khalil Rhett each scored six points and added three rebounds for Moravian while freshman guard Jack Aussenheimer added four points in his first collegiate action. Junior forward Nate Samanns scored three points in his first college start.

The game started quick for the Greyhounds as Jennings scored on a three-point play and followed that up with a lay-up after a steal by Dickerson to give the Hounds a 5-0 lead just 76 seconds into the game. The Bullets tied the contest at 5-5 before Rhett put Moravian back in front with the first points of his career.

Gettysburg began to warm-up from the field where they shot 45.5 percent in the first half and 52.5 percent from the floor to build a 31-16 lead with 5:07 before the intermission. Moravian cut that deficit to nine points before heading to the locker room down, 39-27.

Two quick buckets by McGuire to start the second half had the Greyhounds down 39-31; however, the Bullets scored the next 11 points to take control of the game.

Moravian will get right back on the court in the consolation game of the Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament when the Hounds will play Hood College at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16. The Greyhounds and the Blazers will be meeting on the court for the first time 2006 in just the second contest between the schools.
