Greyhounds Battle Tough in Home Opener

Bethlehem, Pa.---The Moravian College men's basketball team returned to Johnston Hall Saturday after a three-game road stint for Family Day against non-conference opponent Lebanon Valley College. Senior guard Izel Dickerson led the Hounds with 19 points against the Flying Dutchmen, who captured the win 66-58.

"We struggled on offense today," commented Head Coach Jim Walker. "When we had a stop and the opportunity to take the lead, we rushed which caused our own turnover or a missed shot."

Dickerson put up 11 points and went 5-of-9 from the floor in the first half. He added eight points in the second half and went 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Junior guard Jarrod Dilts was back in the rotation after missing the first three games due to an injury. He would help on offense adding 15 points shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and 5-of- 8 from behind the arch.

Sophomore forward Brandon McGuire recorded nine rebounds and eight points on the afternoon while sophomore guard Sean Hanna added nine points for the Greyhounds.

Lebanon Valley jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, but a layup by Isaiah Jennings and a follow up three-pointer by McGuire put the Greyhounds with four. The Flying Dutchmen would extend the lead until back-to-back three pointers by Dickerson and Dilts and a layup by Hanna gave the Hounds a one point deficit 18-17 with 11:14 left in the first half. The teams would battle point-for-point for most of the first half, before heading into intermission with Lebanon Valley College holding a 34-25 advantage.

In the second half, Dilts and McGuire got the Blue and Grey within three and layup by Dickerson again made it a one game point game, 41-40, with just less than 10 minutes left in the period. The Flying Dutchmen answered with a run that the Greyhounds couldn't recover from.

Moravian basketball returns to Johnston Hall on Tuesday, November 25 at 8:00 p.m. for a non-conference match with DeSales University.
