Hounds Drop Tough Non-Conference Game at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa.--- The Moravian College men's basketball team rounded out the 2014 portion of its schedule in a non-conference game against Haverford College on Saturday afternoon, falling, 85-80, in a hard-fought and back-and-forth contest.

Senior guard Izel Dickerson led the Greyhounds with 26 points, two rebounds and two assists. Sophomore forward Brandon McGuire had a double-double on the day scoring 15 points and grabbed a team-high of 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Sean Hanna netted 13 points, one assist and two steals while sophomore guard Isaiah Jennings scored 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.

The Hounds tied the game at 32-32 with 4:52 left in the first period with a lay-up by McGuire, who had his fifth double-double of the season and his career. Dickerson would extend the lead with six points, making two lay-ups and a jump shot to give the Greyhounds a one point lead, 40-39, going into intermission.

The second half would have the Blue and Grey trading points with Haverford all half. The Hounds would hold a 55-52 lead after a made free throw by junior forward Ryan O'Neil, who had six points and five rebounds. Trading points again, the Fords took the lead with 10:08 left on the clock, 65-57. A made lay-up by Nate Samanns, who added five points and three rebounds, and Jennings and Dickerson both connecting on shots brought it back to a two-point game. Haverford would take the lead with just over a minute left to play and despite a good three pointer by Jennings to bring it within two points again before the game ended.

The Greyhounds pick back up in the new year as they face off against conference opponent Susquehanna University on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
