Five Greyhounds Net Double Figures in 98-84 Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team had five players score in double figures including 20 points apiece from junior forward Brandon McGuire and freshman guard Jimmy Murray to lead the Greyhounds to a 98-84 Landmark Conference victory at Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon as the Hounds played their final road game of the season.

The Blue and Grey netted 98 points for the second time this winter with 60 points coming in the opening half when the Greyhounds shot 71.4 percent (20-for-28) from the floor and 76.9 percent (10-for-13) behind the three-point line. Moravian, 9-13 overall and 4-10 in Landmark Conference action, won its second straight road contest and will play its final three games in Johnston Hall.

McGuire added six rebounds and a pair of assists to his 20 points while Murray had five assists against no turnovers and three rebounds in the victory. Freshman guard Jake McGee tossed in 18 points and had five boards in the game while freshman forward Oneil Holder had his fifth double-double of the winter with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Sean Hanna was also in double figures with 10 points, and he dished out six assists with just one turnover.

Sophomore guard Matt Cardonne had six points while junior guard Isaiah Jennings and sophomore guard Khalil Rhett each scored four points. Jennings added three steals and a pair of assists while freshman guard Will Brazukas had three steals and the Greyhounds' other two points.

Murray scored on a three-pointer just 13 seconds into the game for a 3-0 lead and an advantage that the Greyhounds enjoyed the entire game. McGee pushed the lead into double digits at 20-10 with a pair of free throws at the 14:19 mark, and Moravian's advantage peaked at 15 points, 34-19, on a three-pointer by McGuire with 10:44 left in the opening half. The Blue Jays would cut the game down to seven points, 40-33, but a three-pointer from McGee seven seconds before the intermission sent the Greyhounds to the locker room with a 60-47 advantage.

In the second half, Murray drilled his fourth three-pointer of the afternoon for a 21-point lead, 74-53, with 15:27 to play while Rhett would give the Greyhounds their largest lead of the afternoon of 23 points, 82-59, with a pair of free throws with 10:43 remaining. The Blue Jays cut the Moravian advantage to 11 points twice in final ten minutes but a three-point play by McGee and a three-pointer from Hanna made sure the Greyhounds' double-digit lead remained for the rest of the contest.

Moravian's up-tempo, pressing style under first-year Head Coach Justin Potts forced Elizabethtown into 19 turnovers in the game, and the Hounds scored 21 points off of those turnovers. Elizabethtown had just 15 assists while the Greyhounds had 21 assists to just 17 turnovers in the victory.

The Blue and Grey are scheduled to return to action on Monday, February 15 when the squad hosts the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Landmark Conference game starting at 5:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
