McGuire Named Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior forward Brandon McGuire has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performance over the first week of the season.

McGuire helped the Hounds open the year with a 2-1 mark while averaging 21.0 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. He connected on 29-of-41 shots from the floor (70.7 percent) and 3-of-7 attempts behind the three-point line, and McGuire contributed seven assists, seven blocked shots and five steals while playing 102 minutes in the three games.

McGuire began the season with 26 points and 14 rebounds in an 85-79 loss at rival Muhlenberg College. He then had 13 points and 12 rebounds in an 87-68 win over City College of New York with his first rebound of the game being the 500th of his career, the 16th player in school history to reach the milestone. McGuire finished the week with 24 points and a career-high 17 rebounds for his 21st career double-double as Moravian defeated Brooklyn College, 74-72, to finish 2-0 at the Ollie Gelston Classic hosted by Montclair State University. McGuire, who also had a career-high five blocked shots against Brooklyn, was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

"Brandon is off to a great start this year," commented second-year Head Coach Justin Potts. "He had a great offseason and that hard work is paying off. He has been very efficient on the offensive end and done a great job rebounding for us. His versatility makes him a tough matchup and our guys have done a good job finding him in spots that he likes to score. These awards are always a reflection of playing good team basketball."

Moravian is slated to open its 2016-17 home season on Tuesday, November 22 in a non-conference contest when the Greyhounds welcome DeSales University to Johnston Hall with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m. The contest is scheduled to be aired live by TV-2 Sports.
