GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team earned its second victory of the 2017-18 season Friday evening, defeating Hunter (N.Y.) College, 88-50, in the opening round of the Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament.
The Hounds, who are 2-0 on the year, will face Bridgewater (Va.) College in the championship game on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. after the Hawks defeated the host Bullets, 77-75 in overtime, in Friday's other first round game.
Junior forward Oneil Holder led four Greyhounds in double figures with a game high 18 points to go along with three rebounds. Senior guard Matt Cardonne tossed in 14 points to go with six rebounds and a pair of assists while sophomore guard C.J. Barnes had ten points and three boards. Sophomore guard Elijah Davis netted a career high 10 points to go with three assists.
Junior guard Nicholas Casazza contributed eight points, four assists and a pair of steals for Moravian while junior guard Jimmy Murray and sophomore forward Addis Ralph each scored seven points with Ralph pulling down five rebounds and Murray adding two assists. Senior forward Khalil Rhett and junior guard Will Brazukas both netted four points with Rhett adding six rebounds while Brazukas dished out a team-high six assists to go with five boards. Freshman guard Matt O'Connor had three points, three rebounds and a pair of assists while freshman guard Shon Wilson added three rebounds and two points.
Moravian's up-tempo, pressing style forced the Hawks into 32 turnovers in the game while the Hounds had just 14 miscues, and the Blue and Grey also dished out 21 assists while limiting Hunter to eight assists. The Greyhounds shot 39.5 percent from the floor (32-of-81) and attempted 42 three-pointers for the second straight game this season.
Barnes opened the scoring with a three-pointer just 14 seconds into the game to give Moravian a lead that it never relinquished. Barnes hit another trey at the 16-minute mark as the Hounds extended the advantage to 13-2. The Hawks would close within eight points, 37-29, with a minute and a half until the intermission but the Greyhounds scored the final seven points of the half to head to the locker room with a 44-29 lead.
Cardonne would give the Blue and Grey a 23-point edge, 54-31, with 15:50 remaining as the Hounds kept the advantage over 20 points for the rest of the evening.
