MONTCLAIR, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to win its second straight game with an 89-64 victory over Penn College in the second day of the Ollie Gelston Classic at Montclair State (N.J.) University Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward Oneil Holder led four Greyhounds in double figures with 17 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. Senior guard Jimmy Murray and junior forward Addis Ralph each scored 12 points with Ralph grabbing five rebounds and Murray adding three boards. Junior forward John Hargraves contributed 10 points while junior guard C.J. Barnes had nine points.
Senior guard Nicholas Casazza tossed in eight points while junior guard Elijah Davis and sophomore guard Shon Wilson each had six points with Davis adding three rebounds, two assists and three steals and Wilson contributing a pair of rebounds. Sophomore guard Matt O'Connor had five points, four assists and three rebounds while senior guard Will Brazukas added four assists, three rebounds, three steals and two points. Freshman forward Steve Breeman had two points and three steals while sophomore guard Keith Otto had four rebounds and freshman guard Noel Karameros added three rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Mike Martino dished out two assists.
The Greyhounds were 35-for-77 from the floor and 14-of-38 beyond the three-point line in the contest while shooting 5-of-7 at the foul line. The Hounds pressure defense and up-tempo style forced the Wildcats into 24 turnovers while Moravian had just 12 turnovers to go with 22 assists and 16 steals.
Penn scored the opening basket of the game while Davis connected on a three-pointer to get the Hounds on the scoreboard. Murray hit a jumper and then Holder and Murray had back-to-back three-pointers for a 9-4 lead before the Wildcats came back to take a 10-9 lead. Davis drilled another three-pointer to give the Greyhounds the lead for good, 12-10, with 16:34 left in the first half.
Barnes pushed the lead to double digits at 24-12 with a three-pointer at the 13:36 mark, and another trey by Murray had Moravian leading 35-14 with 9:19 before the intermission. The Blue and Grey's advantage reached 27 points, 43-16, after a jumper by Ralph at the 7:33 mark, and the Hounds headed to the locker room with a 52-29 advantage.
The Greyhounds would keep the lead in double figures throughout the entire second half of the contest with it reaching 32 points, 66-34, on a lay-up by Casazza after a steal by Holder on a press with 15:34 left to play. Casazza put the advantage back to 32 points, 79-47, on a three-pointer with 7:49 remaining. Moravian's largest lead of the game was 34 points at 81-47 after a lay-up by Hargraves.
The Hounds will return to action on Tuesday, November 20 when the team hosts DeSales University in a non-conference contest scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live in the Lehigh Valley by Service Electric TV-2 Sports.
