Men's Lacrosse Defeats Neumann on the Road in Non-Conference Action

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team won its second straight non-conference match, defeating host Neumann University, 13-8, Tuesday evening.

Sophomore attack James Carroll led the Greyhounds, who are now 3-3 on the season, with five goals while sophomore attack Mark Laratta added three goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Jack Gozzard netted a pair of goals while sophomore midfielder Austin Adams had a goal and three assists for the Blue and Grey.

Freshman attack Cade Siddron contributed a goal and an assist while sophomore midfielder Robert Gellatly had one goal. Sophomore midfielder AJ Cioffi dished out two assists while sophomore midfielder Rick Guerra had one assist.

Sophomore goalie Kurt Dick made 14 saves and five ground balls for Moravian while Guerra was 13-of-21 on face-offs while scooping up 11 ground balls, tied for the eighth most in a single match in school history. Sophomore defender John Polich had nine ground balls while Laratta scooped up five ground balls and caused four turnovers. Gozzard and freshman defender Brian Darling each had three ground balls.

Laratta opened the scoring at the 11:04 mark of the first quarter and Carroll scored just seven seconds later to give Moravian the lead for good. Laratta and Carroll each added another goal and Gozzard scored as well as the Hounds lead 5-1 after 15 minutes of action.

Neumann scored the first three goals of the second quarter to pull within one, 5-4, before goals from Gozzard, Carroll and Adams sent Moravian to the intermission with an 8-4 lead. The Blue and Grey tallied the only two goals in the third quarter with Carroll and Gellatly pushing the edge to 10-4 after 45 minutes of play.

Siddron and Carroll scored for a 12-4 lead in the fourth quarter before the Knights scored four of the last five goals in the final 8:30 of the match.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 1 in a Landmark Conference match at Susquehanna University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
