Moravian Holds on for Men's Lacrosse Win at Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held on for an 11-10 victory over host Wilkes University in non-conference action Wednesday.

The Greyhounds, who are now 2-2 on the season, had five different players score goals led by junior attack Mark Laratta, who had three goals and two assists for five points. Sophomore attack Cade Siddron also netted three goals and had one assist while junior attack James Carroll and freshman attack Connor Hull each had two goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Dominick Gurreri also contributed one goal for the Blue and Grey.

Sophomore MacLean Lincoln made his first start of the season in goal for the Greyhounds, and he made eight saves. Junior midfielder Rick Guerra was 14-for-24 on face-offs, and he registered a team-high five ground balls while Carroll and Siddron each had three ground balls. Freshman long stick midfielder Tanner Leslie had a pair of caused turnovers for the Hounds while Laratta, sophomore long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke, junior defender John Polich and junior midfielder Hayden DuPont all scooped up two ground balls.

Siddron opened the scoring with a man-up goal a minute and a half into the contest, and Carroll pushed the lead to 2-0 after three minutes of play. Laratta scored his second of the game with just three seconds left in the first quarter as Moravian led 5-2 after 15 minutes of action.

Each team scored twice in the second quarter with Hull adding another man-up goal for the Greyhounds, who led 7-4 at the intermission. The Colonels limited the Blue and Grey to a pair of goals in the third quarter as they cut the Hounds' edge to 9-8 after 45 minutes of play.

Siddron made it a two-goal lead again with 10 minutes to play but Wilkes pulled within a goal again with 2:44 remaining. Laratta added what ended up being the winning goal with 1:31 to play, shortly after a timeout by Moravian.

 The Greyhounds are slated to return to action with their 2018 home opener on Saturday, March 17 when the squad hosts rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
