Hounds Rally in Second Half for Non-Conference Win Over Neumann

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team rallied from the three-goal halftime deficit to earn a 9-6 win over visiting Neumann University in non-conference action Saturday on John Makuvek Field.

The Greyhounds, now 4-3 on the season, had six different players score goals led by junior midfielder James Carroll, who netted a hat trick to go along with three ground balls. Junior midfielder Austin Adams had a pair of goals and three ground balls while junior midfielder Dominick Gurreri and sophomore attack Cade Siddron each had one goal and one assist. Junior midfielders Alec Oriolo and Hayden DuPont both scored one goal.

Junior goalie Kurt Dick came on to play the second half and made three saves while allowing one goal to earn the victory. Sophomore MacLean Lincoln added seven saves while playing the first half of the contest in goal. Junior midfielder Rick Guerra won 11-of-19 face-offs, and he added five ground balls while junior defender John Polich led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Freshman long stick midfielder Tanner Leslie scooped up five ground balls while sophomore long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke added four ground balls.

Neumann scored the opening goal of the match before Siddron tied the contest with 9:36 left in the first quarter. The Knights moved ahead again but Adams had the match all square at 2-2 after 15 minutes of action with his first goal of the afternoon. Neumann did all of the scoring in the second quarter as the Knights headed to the intermission with a 5-2 lead.

Carroll and Gurreri each netted goals in the first minute and a half of the third quarter as Moravian closed within a goal at 5-4. Neumann answered to go back ahead by two before Moravian scored the final five tallies of the contest. Carroll scored a man-up goal with 10:47 left in the third period, and he added another goal to knot the score at 6-6 after 45 minutes of action.

The Greyhounds scored the only three goals in the fourth quarter with Oriolo netting the go-ahead goal with 11:35 to play. Adams scored again with just over six minutes remaining while DuPont netted hits first goal of the season with just over a minute to play.

Moravian will close out its four-match home stand on Friday, March 30 when the squad begins its 2018 Landmark Conference season with a contest versus Susquehanna University beginning at 6:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
