BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team recorded the first win over a fellow Landmark Conference program with an 11-7 victory versus Drew University Saturday afternoon on John Makuvek Field.
The Greyhounds, now 5-5 this spring, are in their fifth Landmark Conference campaign, and had goals from five different players with junior attack James Carroll netting four goals to tie the program record with 92 career tallies. Carroll also had an assist in the match while junior attack Mark Laratta contributed three goals and an assist. Sophomore attack Cade Siddron had two goals and two assists while junior midfielders Austin Adams and Rick Guerra each scored one goal and junior midfielder Dominick Gurreri added an assist.
Junior goalie Kurt Dick made 15 saves for the Hounds to go with two ground balls while Guerra was 6-for-21 on face-offs with six ground balls. Junior defender John Polich contributed three caused turnovers and three ground balls while sophomore long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls. Carroll also added three ground balls while Laratta and junior defender Brian Biase each had two ground balls.
Siddron opened the scoring with 6:56 left in the first quarter, and Laratta had the Blue and Grey leading 2-0 after 15 minutes of action. Moravian then scored the first four goals of the second quarter with Laratta's man-up tally with 7:11 giving the Hounds a 6-0 edge. Carroll added a goal with 34 seconds left in the period to send the Greyhounds into the intermission with a 7-1 lead.
After the Rangers scored the opening goal of the third quarter, Moravian tallied three more times with Carroll scoring twice and Guerra winning a face-off and racing down for a goal just six seconds after Carroll's first of the quarter as the Blue and Grey left 10-2 after 45 minutes of action.
Carroll tied the school goals record with 13:31 left in the fourth quarter as Moravian led 11-2, and he had several chances to break the mark with one shot hitting the post and two being saved later in the quarter. Drew would score the final five goals of the match including a pair in the final two minutes to close within five goals but the Hounds defense stepped up.
Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, April 18 in a Landmark Conference match at Elizabethtown College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
