ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team nearly rallied from a four-goal deficit before host Elizabethtown College scored three late tallies to post a 9-5 win over the Greyhounds in a hard-fought Landmark Conference match Wednesday afternoon.
Junior midfielder James Carroll became the Hounds' all-time leader in goals with 93 in his career as he was one of four Greyhounds to find the net in the contest. Junior midfielder Austin Adams led Moravian with two goals and an assist while junior midfielder Alec Oriolo and junior attack Mark Laratta each had goals. Sophomore attack Cade Siddron contributed a pair of assists while junior midfielders Hayden DuPont and Dominick Gurreri each had one assist.
Junior goalie Kurt Dick made 12 saves while junior midfielder Rick Guerra won 6-of-17 face-offs and added three ground balls. Laratta and sophomore long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke, junior defender John Polich and freshman defender Tanner Leslie all had three ground balls and junior defender Brian Biase caused two turnovers.
Elizabethtown scored the only two goals in the first 15 minutes of action, and the Blue Jays also tallied the first two goals in the second quarter for a 4-0 lead. Carroll would get Moravian on the scoreboard and break the school record of career goals with a man-up tally with 6:52 left before the intermission. Adams added a man-up goal with 18 seconds in the period as the Hounds cut the deficit to 4-2 at halftime.
Laratta opened the scoring in the third quarter as Moravian moved within a goal at 4-3 before the Blue Jays scored twice. Oriolo scored a man-up goal with 15 seconds left in the third, and Adams added another man-up goal with just over 10 minutes to play as the Blue and Grey trailed just 6-5. However, Elizabethtown scored three times over the final 4:27 to end the match.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 21 in a Landmark Conference contest versus The Catholic University of America beginning at 1:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.
