DeMott Makes School & Landmark Conference Tournament Record 31 Saves but Hounds Fall at Catholic in Landmark Semifinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The fifth seeded Moravian College men's lacrosse squad scored first but ended up falling to top seed The Catholic University of America, 11-7, in a Landmark Conference Semifinal Wednesday evening as sophomore goalie Sean DeMott made a school and Landmark Conference Tournament record 31 saves in the contest.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds opened the scoring when senior attack Cade Siddron scored just under two minutes into the contest. However, the Cardinals scored the next three goals to lead 3-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • Junior attack Connor James netted the first goal of the second quarter for Moravian as the Blue & Grey pulled within a goal. Catholic scored four of the other five goals in the quarter sandwiched around another goal by Siddron as the Cardinals led 7-3 at the intermission
  • Catholic scored first in the third quarter before Siddron and junior midfielder Zach Bergeron to close the gap to 8-5 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Cardinals netted the first three goals of the final quarter before junior attack Griffin LeBlond and freshman midfielder Joey Furino finished off the scoring in the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Siddron led Moravian with three goals and a pair of assists  to finish his career second all-time with 118 goals, third all-time with 63 assists and second all-time with 181 points while Bergeron had a goal and an assist. James, LeBlond and Furino all netted one goal for the Hounds while junior midfielder Nick Nolder added an assist
  • Freshman defender Jacob Stetson led the Greyhounds with four ground balls while senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had three ground balls to finish his career with 224, ranking third in program history. Senior face-off specialist Max Towers was 5-for-15 on face-offs
  • Before DeMott's 31-save performance, the previous Moravian record for saves in a match was 22 by Harry McCann in a match at Lycoming College on March 27, 2004
