Algor’s Gem Improves Ranking in NCAA DIII Statistics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – When senior forward Jeffrey Algor of the Moravian College men's soccer team scored a spectacular goal against The University of Scranton last Tuesday, he raised his season total to 12 goals, which ranks in a 43rd place tie in this week's NCAA Division III men's soccer statistics release.

In the 13th minute against the Royals, Algor beat a pair of Scranton defenders and dribbled into an open space in midfield. He caught the Royal defense and goalkeeper by surprise by launching a left-footed shot from 40-yards out. The ball skipped at pace on the turf and found a home in the left side of the back of the net.

"Jeff has been able to find the back of the net quite a bit this season and it's been great to have him back up front this year," said head coach Todd Ervin of his star striker, who played on the Greyhound defense in 2012. "I had told Jeff during the warm up for the Scranton game that since the wind was howling, there's nothing wrong with having a shot from distance.  He did just that and the ball took a good bounce and was able to get by the keeper."

Algor is averaging 0.71 goals per game, which ranks 60th in all of DIII. He added two assists this season to help his total points (26) and points per game (1.53) marks rank in the top 100 in the nation.

The senior also currently leads the Landmark Conference in both goals and points with one game remaining on the 2013 slate.

Algor and the Greyhounds finish their regular season campaign on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Goucher College at 2:30 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
