Men's Soccer Drops Hard-Fought, 3-2 Match at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team fought back from a 2-0 first half deficit to tie the contest at 2-2 before falling to Juniata College, 3-2, on a late goal in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds had the first chance to score in the match with a corner kick just 1:25 into the contest but it would be the Eagles with the first goal coming in the seventh minute on a direct kick after a foul. Juniata looked to extend the lead in the next two minutes but Moravian junior goalie Brian Boland came up with two of his six saves to keep it a one-goal game.

Greyhound junior forward Brett Harder put a shot on the goal in the 29th minute, and junior midfielder Seth Reynolds added a header just 16 seconds later but both were stopped.

Juniata added a goal in the 40th minute for a 2-0 lead but the Hounds continued to push, nearly cutting the lead in half when junior defender Matthew Gandy put a header just wide of the goal with 15 seconds before halftime.

The Eagles hit a post with the first shot after the intermission but it would be Moravian that scored first in the second 45 minutes of action. Freshman defender Ryan Bartel knocked in his third goal of the season on a loose ball after a Moravian corner kick.

Senior forward Shane McCaslin's first chance to tie the match with a header in the 54th minute was high, but he would connected on another header in the 60th minute and find the back of the net for his first goal off the season off of a pass from freshman defender Corey Klaskin.

The Greyhounds nearly took a lead three minutes later when sophomore midfielder Saul Marcial had a shot headed for the back of the net but was stopped by a Juniata defender. Sophomore midfielder Robert McKinley added a shot on goal in the 80th minute but it was the Eagles that would break the tie with a goal in the 84th minute.

The Hounds had one final shot with a corner kick in the final 20 seconds but they were unable to find the equalizer.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Tuesday, October 14 in a non-conference match versus Pennsylvania College of Technology beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
