Hounds Fall 2-1 in Double Overtime at Centenary

Bethlehem, Pa.--- Junior defender Austin van-Spanje scored his first career goal to send the Moravian College men's soccer game into double overtime against non-conference Centenary College on Saturday; however, it was the Cyclones that eventually pulled out the 2-1 win in the 103rd minute.

In the first half, the Greyhounds got off three shots, the first by junior forward Zachary Klein in the eighth minute of play forcing the goalkeeper to make a save. In the 10th minute, junior defender Matthew Gandy would miss just high and looking to take the lead into halftime was junior midfielder Brett Harder, whose shot in the 37th minute also missed high.

Centenary took 1-0 lead in the 50th minute, but the Hounds didn't back down. Harder would try his luck again the 64th minute but the Cyclones keeper made the save. Van-Spanje would answer back tying the game 1-1 in the 66th minute with an assist by senior defender Matt Guidon. Freshman midfielder Mark Harder looked to take the lead with a shot in the 71st minute but another save would send the game into overtime.

In the first of two 10 minute overtime periods, Guidon would have the only shot two minutes into the period that was just a little too high. The second period of overtime found the Hounds a corner kick in the 102nd minute, but couldn't get on the end of it. The Cyclones would seal the deal a minute later off a penalty kick.

Moravian finishes their regular season off at Drew University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 in Landmark Conference action.
