Men's Soccer Falls at Catholic in Landmark Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team had a first half lead but the Greyhounds were unable to hold on, falling to The Catholic University of America, 3-2, in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Saul Marcial took a shot on goal at the five minute mark for the Greyhounds that was saved but the rebound ended up at the feet of senior midfielder Brett Harder, who passed it over to sophomore midfielder Connor Phillips who drilled it into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season. The Hounds nearly made it 2-0 in the 14th minute when Harder's shot was saved. Sophomore midfielder Brett Lubben and sophomore defender Corey Klaskin also had shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes of action.

After the intermission, the Cardinals controlled play for the first 12 minutes as they netted goals on three consecutive shots in a span of 5:05. Harder tried to pull the Greyhounds closer in the 63rd minute with a shot that go past the Catholic goalie but was cleared off of the line by a Cardinal defender.

Freshman forward Jon Miller and senior midfielder Shane Harder would get shots on goal for the Greyhounds that were saved before Brett Harder found the net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season with just 44 seconds remaining on the clock.

Senior goalie Brian Boland has one save in goal for the Greyhounds.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, September 30 when the squad welcomes Hood College to the HUB Quad for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
