Hounds Play to 1-1 Double-Overtime Draw at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team saw a one-goal lead slip away in the final 30 seconds of regulation as the Greyhounds and Goucher College played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in Landmark Conference action Saturday.

The Hounds, now 4-4-1 overall, earned their first point in the conference standings for the 2016 season with the draw. Moravian broke a scoreless tie in the 65th minute. The Blue and Grey had an indirect kick just outside the 18-yard box to the right of the goal. Junior midfielder Brett Lubben lined up over the ball but instead of aiming at the net, Lubben slid a pass across the top of the box to junior midfielder Connor Phillips. Phillips one-touched a pass towards the left goal post where junior midfielder William Demmel came streaking in and knocked the pass into the net for his first goal of the season.

The Gophers pressed late with Moravian junior goalie Bryan Yaskowski needing to make three of his five saves in the final eight minutes of regulation. Goucher had a pair of corner kicks in the final 1:45 and scored a header goal off of the second one with just 35 seconds left in regulation.

Demmel had the only shot for either team in the first 10 minutes of action while Goucher, which had a 14-6 edge in shots for the contest, had a shot midway through the second extra session. With under a minute to play, Phillips turned and fired a shot from about 30 yards away that just missed the upper right hand corner of the net as the match ended in a tie.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 12 in a non-conference match at rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Allentown.
