Men's Soccer Earns First Landmark Conference Win of 2016 by Defeating Catholic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team scored three second half goals to pick up its first Landmark Conference win of the season as the Greyhounds topped the Catholic University of America, 3-1, in Landmark action on John Makuvek Field Saturday evening to wrap up Moravian's Homecoming festivities.

The Hounds improve to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Landmark Conference play with a victory that the Blue and Grey needed to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Cardinals took an early lead in the 19th minute but the Greyhounds pressed for the equalizer with three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

"I thought we struggled a little bit in the first half, really not playing our game or with focus or energy," stated Head Coach Todd Ervin. "We had a talk about what we needed to do at halftime. To our guys' credit, they came out and played great in the second half. We were able to get three second half goals after focusing on what we talked about at halftime. All of the credit goes to them."

Moravian would break onto the scoreboard in the 50th minute when senior forward Saul Marcial tapped in a ball after sophomore forward Koshane Marshall corralled a loose ball and slid a pass to Marcial in front of the net. It was Marcial's third goal of the season.

The Hounds snapped the 1-1 tie in the 71st minute when freshman midfielder Jack Dugan drilled a loose ball after a blocked shot into the net for his second goal of the season. Moravian looked to have extended the lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute on a penalty kick by junior midfielder Connor Phillips but the Greyhounds were called for entering the 18-yard box early so Phillips had to retake the PK and was stopped.

Moravian would eventually extend the advantage to 3-1 in the 82nd minute when Marshall scored his first goal of the season as he put a rebound into the net after his first shot was saved.

Greyhound junior goalie Bryan Yaskowski made four saves in the victory.

"There was a save early that Bryan made that kept them from going two up that would have been a challenge to come back from," Ervin said. "He was solid in net, made some really good saves and really kept us in it which allowed us to get the third goal and clinch the match."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 19 in a non-conference match versus New Jersey City University beginning at 7:30 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
