Demmel Nets Lone Goal as Hounds Blank Hood 1-0 to Begin 2017 Season

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2017 season on the road as Greyhounds defeated Hood (Md.) College, 1-0, in a non-conference match in the 19th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic at Swarthmore College Friday evening.

The Greyhounds scored in the 64th minute as senior midfielder William Demmel connected on a hard strike from outside the 18-yard box that beat the keeper. The goal was Demmel's first of the season and second of his career.

The Blue and Grey attempted eight shots, getting three on goal throughout the contest.  Freshman defender/midfielder Alec Aloia had an opportunity in the 18th minute and junior defender Rocky Fatuova had a chance three minutes later in the 21st minute, which required help from a defender earning a team save for Hood.

Junior goalie Bryan Yaskowski made the lead stand up as he posted three saves, for his first shutout of the season and sixth of his career. Moravian was out shot by the Blazers 13-8.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to play Rosemont College on Saturday, September 2, in their final game of the Garnet Alumni Classic beginning at 4:30 p.m.
