BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2017 season after going unbeaten through six matches as the Greyhounds dropped a 2-0 decision to Stockton (N.J.) University in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.
The Ospreys scored in the 36th minute on a ball that saw its way through the defense on a free kick after a foul, and Stockton scored again in the 88th minute off of a corner kick.
Moravian had a the first shot on goal in the match as sophomore midfielder Thulani Motekase in the fifth minute while junior defender Rocky Fatuova had shots on the keeper in the 16th and 45th minute. Senior midfielder Connor Phillips fired off a shot on goal in the 38th minute while junior midfielder David Durski tried to bend in a corner kick in the waning seconds of the first half to see the attempt bounce off the crossbar.
The Greyhounds had one shot on goal in the second half with freshman forward Thiago Queiroz's turned aside in the 59th minute.
Sophomore Matthew Miller made his first start of the season in goal for the Hounds and had one save. The Blue and Grey finished the contest with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks while the Ospreys had an 11-10 advantage in shots with the Greyhounds putting half of their attempts on goal.
"We had chances to score tonight but weren't able to capitalize," stated Head Coach Todd Ervin. "We need to regroup and get ready to start conference play this weekend."
Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, September 23 when the squad heads to the University of Scranton to begin the 2017 Landmark Conference season at 4:00 p.m.
