Greyhounds Rally for a 1-1 Draw at Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference Play

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team scored in the 85th minute to knot the score, and the Greyhounds eventually played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening.

The teams played to a scoreless first half with the Greyhounds, who are now 6-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Landmark Conference action, getting the only shot on goal in the first 45 minutes when freshman midfielder Alec Aloia fired a shot on the keeper in the 13th minute. Junior defender Akinori Mollenthiel was just wide of the net in the 22nd minute after a corner kick from senior midfielder Brett Lubben.

The Blue Jays netted the opening goal of the evening in the 59th minute. Moravian answered in the 85th minute when senior midfielder Connor Phillips headed in a crossing pass from the right side by senior defender Corey Klaskin for Phillips' first tally of the season. Phillips had nearly tied the contest five minutes earlier when he had a header on goal.

The Hounds had the first opportunity in extra time when senior midfielder William Demmel just 23 seconds into the first overtime. Neither team would be able to score in the extra 20 minutes.

Senior goalie Bryan Yaskowski made two saves for the Hounds as Elizabethtown had a 14-11 advantage in shots while both teams had five corner kicks.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 7 when the squad hosts Goucher College in a Landmark Conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.
