BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its 2017 schedule with a 1-1, double-overtime draw versus DeSales University on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.
The Greyhounds, now 8-4-4 on the season, and Bulldogs played into overtime for the second straight fall after the Hound posted a 2-1 win in overtime down in Center valley in 2016.
Moravian opened the scoring in the 17th minute when freshman midfielder Alec Aloia dribbled the ball from the left side of the 18-yard box and fired a shot past the DeSales keeper for his third goal of the season. The Hounds would make the 1-0 advantage hold up through the first half.
The score remained 1-0 until the 79th minute when the Bulldogs found a loose ball and ripped a shot into the upper right of the net to knot the score. The contest would remain tied through the end of regulation with both teams attempting 14 shots in the first 90 minutes including one on goal by Moravian freshman midfielder Jorge Aguilar in the final minute of regulation.
The teams played a pair of scoreless overtimes with one shot on net by DeSales in the second 10-minute session as Moravian freshman goalie Michael Bone had the save in his first action of the season. The Greyhounds had the final shot of the night as sophomore midfielder Thulani Motekase was high of the net with just over a minute to play.
The Blue and Grey recorded a total of eight saves with Bone making one in the 20 minutes of overtime, senior Bryan Yaskowski recording five saves in the first 31 minutes of action with three coming in the first 12:08 of the match and sophomore Matthew Miller stopping two shots in 59 minutes of play.
The Greyhounds rested several starters for the entire match and had others play fewer than 30 minutes as the squad prepares for a must-win match at Susquehanna University on Saturday, October 28 in Landmark Conference action at 4:00 p.m. A victory in the contest will put Moravian into the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time and give the program its first conference tournament appearance since 2003.
