Men's Tennis Competes at Mule Fall Classic

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team spent Sunday at the Mule Fall Classic hosted by Muhlenberg College at Kern Field Courts with Drew University and SUNY Oneonta in a four-team, non-scoring flighted tournament.

The Greyhounds top finish came in the second doubles flight where senior Lewis Cooper and sophomore Giovanni Lombardi won the final 9-8 (7-2) over a team from SUNY Oneonta. The duo defeated a squad from Drew, 8-1, in the first round. In singles action, Cooper was the runner-up in the third singles flight. He had a three-set win in the opening round before falling in straight sets in the final. Lombardi was third in the fourth singles flight with a straight sets win in the consolation match.

Junior Matt Tuorto finished third in the first singles flight after a straight sets victory in the consolation contest while junior John Wylie was the runner-up in second singles with a straight sets win on the first round before falling in two sets in the final. In doubles action, Tuorto and Wylie finished third with a victory in the consolation match.

Sophomore Dan Schmucker placed second in the fifth singles flight, falling in three sets with a 13-11 score in the third set. Schmucker teamed with freshman David Wilson to place second in the third doubles flight. Junior C.J. Widdifield was third in the sixth singles flight with a straight sets victory in the consolation match.

The Greyhounds will close out the fall portion of their 2014-15 season on Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
