Cooper Selected Landmark Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Again

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Lewis Cooper has been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for a second straight week after strong showing on the courts.

Cooper was 2-1 at third singles over the last seven days for the Greyhounds, and he combined with sophomore Giovanni Lombardi for a 3-0 mark at second doubles including winning the second doubles flight at the Mule Fall Classic hosted by Muhlenberg College on Sunday.

"Lewis had another strong week of tennis for the Greyhounds," commented Head Coach Art Smith. "He helped lead our squad to a 6-3 win over a very good Albright team last Wednesday. On Sunday, he and his partner Giovanni beat a tough SUNY of Oneonta team to capture number two doubles at the Muhlenberg Tournament. Lewis is an outstanding competitor and it is contagious with his teammates."

Cooper and Lombardi helped get the Hounds out to a lead with an 8-5 doubles victory in a dual match versus Albright College. Cooper went on to win his third singles match in straight sets to help secure the 6-3 victory as Moravian improved to 2-0 on the year.

At the Mule Fall Classic, Cooper opened the third singles flight with a three-set victory over a player from Muhlenberg before falling in the final match. In doubles action, Cooper and Lombardi combined to beat a team from Landmark rival Drew University in the first round and a team from SUNY Oneonta in the final.

Moravian will close out the fall portion of its 2014-15 season in two weeks on September 27 and 28 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional being hosted by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
