FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team competed at the first day of the 2014 United States Tennis Association-Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Saturday.
The Greyhounds had three players win their opening round singles matches in their singles flights with senior Lewis Cooper winning a match in the Blue 5 Singles draw, sophomore Giovanni Lombardi posting a victory in the Blue 6 Singles and sophomore Dan Schmucker earning a win in the Blue 7 singles.
Cooper and Lombardi also combined for a victory in the opening round of the Blue 2 Doubles draw while Schmucker and junior C.J. Widdifield had a quarterfinal win in the Blue 3 Doubles flight.
Juniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie dropped their first match in the Championship Doubles draw before winning a match in consolation bracket. The duo will continue in the consolation contests on Sunday. Wylie will also play in singles action in the Blue 3 Singles Draw on Sunday as well.
