Men's Indoor Track & Field Opens 2011-12 Season at Non-Scoring Lehigh Season Opener

Moravian began the 2011-12 season at the seven-team, non-scoring Lehigh University Season Opener. The Greyhounds had three individual champions and three ECAC Division III qualifiers. Senior Timothy Layng the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.65 meters (15 feet, three inches) while senior Steve Ambrosi won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.09.

With the weather warm enough at the start of the meet, the teams went outside to throw the javelin, and Moravian senior Gary Zack, the defending NCAA Division III National Champion, won the event with a toss of 60.02 meters (196 feet, 11 inches). Freshman Kyle Conners was third with a toss of 53.74 meters (176 feet, four inches).

Sophomore Michael Fritz was seventh in the shot put with a distance of 12.65 meters (41 feet, six inches) while freshman Jeffrey Gallagher was tenth at 11.60 meters (38 feet, 3/4 inch). Sophomore Timothy Lorah placed fifth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.66 feet, 41 feet, 6 1/2 inches) while junior Tyler Potterton was seventh at 12.06 meters (39 feet, seven inches) and senior Michael Facchiano took ninth at 11.18 meters (36 feet, 8 1/4 inches).

Sophomore Kristopher Joint took second in the triple jump, the last event to finish near 11 p.m., with an ECAC qualifying leap of 13.99 meters (45 feet, 10 3/4 inches). Junior Travis King was third in the triple jump in another ECAC qualifying mark of 13.89 meters (45 meters, seven inches) while senior Nicco Dalpiaz was seventh at 12.74 meters (41 feet, 9 3/4 inches). The Greyhounds had a total of six top-ten finishes in the triple jump with freshman Chris Ossont taking eighth at 12.48 meters (40 feet, 11 1/2 inches), junior Jonathan Heberling finishing ninth at 12.23 meters (40 feet, 1 1/2 inches) and junior Vincent McDowell taking tenth with a distance of 12.22 meters (40 feet, 1 1/4 inches).

Dalpiaz was also fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3 1/4 inches) while Joint took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.52 meters (21 feet, 4 3/4 inches). Heberling was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.51 meters (21 feet, 4 1/4 inches) while King was tenth at 6.30 meters (20 feet, eight inches).

On the track, sophomore Yacine Zerdoum took second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.57 seconds while McDowell was ninth in 54.68 seconds. Senior Kyle D'Angelo finished third in the 200-meter dash in 23.57 seconds while freshman Joe Wirfel was eighth in the event in 24.13 seconds. Wirfel also took fourth in the 60-meter dash in 7.44 seconds while D'Angelo was sixth in 7.49 seconds. McDowell placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.16 seconds while sophomore Craig Arner took tenth at 9.68 seconds.
