Cariello Places 3rd at Mondschein Multi's at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. --- Senior David Cariello placed third of 21 competitors in the decathlon at the Mondschein Multi's hosted by Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Thursday and Friday.

Cariello scored 6,230 points, the sixth-best total in school history. The total also moves him to seventh on the Track & Field Results Reporting System. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

Cariello scored 3381 points on the opening day on Thursday. He ran a time of 11.12 seconds in the 100-meter dash to begin competition with 834 points. Cariello then had a long jump of 6.52 meters for 702 points and a shot put of 11.26 meters for 562 points. He cleared 1.77 meters in the high jump for 602 points before finishing the opening day with a 400-meter dash time of 53.01 seconds for 681 points.

On Friday, Cariello began the day with a time of 15.18 seconds for 828 points. He then tossed the discus 24.71 meters for 362 points before clearing 4.23 meters in the pole vault for another 682 points. Cariello finished the decathlon with a javelin throw of 44.72 meters for 511 points and a time of 5:16.99 in the 1,500-meter run.

The Greyhounds will host the second day of the Coach P Open on Saturday, April 12 at Timothy Breidegam Field begining at 10:00 a.m.
