Men Win 3 Events, Set 2 Meet Records at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team had three individual winners, two win meet records, and posted nine ECAC qualifying marks in the annual Coach P Open hosted in memory of former Head Coach Doug Pollard Friday and Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.

Freshman Cory Taggert had a meet record time and ECAC qualifying mark of 1:53.85 in the 800-meter run while junior Dillon Farrell captured the 1,500-meter run in a meet record time of 3:59.39, surpassing his own meet record from 2012 by 32 hundredths of a second. The Greyhounds other individual winner was sophomore Ryan Karnopp in the pole vault where he posted a winning and ECAC qualifying mark at 4.85 meters (15 feet, 11 inches). The height also moves him to seventh on the Track & Field Results Reporting System. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

Elsewhere on the track, senior Yacine Zerdoum was fourth in the 400-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 49.64 seconds while freshman Austin Gardener was 10th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in 11.37 seconds. Gardener also ran the lead off leg of Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team that included freshmen Matt Barnett, Jamil Poole and Marquise Bourgeois that was fifth with an ECAC qualifying time of 43.23 seconds.

In the other distance events, junior Alec Duncan was third in the 5,000-meter run in 16:21.99 while sophomore Maxwell Korten was eighth in the 10,000-meter run Friday evening in 35:49.78.

Sophomore Gavin Bailey placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 56.14 seconds while senior Craig Arner was 10th in the 110-meter high hurdle preliminaries in 16.26 seconds.

Senior Kristopher Joint was the runner-up in the triple jump at 14.65 meters (48 feet, ¾ inch), an ECAC qualifying mark and a number that would be fourth on the TFRRS list if Joint didn't already have the top distance in the nation this spring. Junior Chris Ossont also had an ECAC qualifying distance in the triple jump with a mark of 13.74 meters (45 feet, one inch) to place fifth. Freshman Kahron Walker was tied for ninth in the high jump with an ECAC qualifying height of 1.93 meters (six feet, four inches).

In the throws, senior Timothy Lorah was the runner-up in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying toss of 62.53 meters (205 feet, two inches), a mark that would be second in the nation but Lorah already has the top mark this spring.

Junior Parker Munson was sixth in the shot put Friday with a toss of 13.44 meters (44 feet, 1 ¼ inches), and he took seventh in the discus on Saturday at 41.34 meters (135 feet, seven inches). Junior Jeffrey Gallagher was sixth in the hammer throw Friday with a mark of 42.69 meters (140 feet, one inch), and he also placed ninth in the discus at 40.23 meters (132 feet). Freshman Matt Jones was ninth in the hammer at 40.10 meters (131 feet, seven inches).

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action with their second straight home meet when the team hosts the Greyhound Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. Action will begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and resume on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
