Cariello Places 6th in Decathlon at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- Senior David Cariello placed sixth in the decathlon at the 120th Penn Relays hosted by The University of Pennsylvania at historic Franklin Field with the second day of action on Wednesday.

Cariello had a first day score of 3,339 points after five events, and he began day two with a time of 15.53 in the 110-meter high hurdles to earn another 787 points. Cariello then had a personal record toss of 29.94 meters (98 feet, three inches) in the discus to gain another 463 points. Unfortunately, Cariello's quest to improve his season high of 6,230 points which is the NCAA Division III Track & Field Results Reporting System took a hit when he was unable to record a height in the pole vault. The top 20 student-athletes on the TFRRS list at the end of the season will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.

Cariello would finish up strong after the miss in the pole vault with a distance of 44.68 meters (148 feet, five inches) in the javelin for 518 points. In the final event, Cariello took 15 seconds off of his previous best to finish the 1,500-meter run in 5:01.96 and earn 548 points.

Moravian will return to the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 24 with seven women and one man in competition.
