Karnopp Wins Pole Vault at Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Junior Ryan Karnopp was one of three Greyhounds to hit ECAC qualifying marks as he won the pole vault at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse in the season opening competition for the Moravian College Indoor Track & Field team.

Karnopp won with a Rauch Fieldhouse and ECAC mark of 4.65 meters (15 feet, 3 inches), just four inches shy of the height that earned him All-America honors this past March. Another vaulter also cleared 4.65 meters on Saturday but at the lower height of 4.50 meters, Karnopp needed just one attempt while the other competitor needed a second attempt.

Sophomore Matt Barnett hit the ECAC qualifying time in the 60-meter dash by 0.01 with a third place time of 7.09 seconds in the finals while sophomore Kahron Walker took sixth in the high jump at an ECAC qualifying height of 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6.75 inches), which is a career-best for Walker and ties for second in Moravian's indoor history.

The Greyhounds had three other top 10 performances in the season opener with sophomore Austin Gardener placing fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.96 seconds, sophomore Matt Jones finishing ninth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.92 meters (45 feet, 8 inches) and junior Gavin Bailey taking 10th in the long jump at 6.39 meters (20 feet, 11.75 inches).

Moravian is not scheduled to return to action until Saturday, January 24, 2015 when the squad splits to compete at the Princeton University Tiger Open and the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
