Cahill Named Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior thrower Greg Cahill has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend.

Cahill, who was also the Landmark Field Athlete of the Week back on December 14, set both the Moravian and Landmark Conference record in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 16.24 meters (53-3.5) as he finished third in the event at the 24th Annual John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday. Cahill's mark bettered the previous mark set by the Greyhounds' Blair Maginnis in 2009 by just over two feet, and the throw also puts Cahill 24th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list and the top 15 student-athletes in each event will head to the NCAA Division III National Championships in March.

"We knew this was coming with Greg," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He's shown this capability in practice, it's just a matter of doing it on the meet day. He had good consistency in his series too, with three throws over 16 meters so he set the school record three times on Saturday. When you can show consistency, you know you've got more in you rather than it just being one throw, jump, or race where everything came together. He showed this mark is very reflective of his capabilities so we expect even bigger throws on the horizon."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action at the Susquehanna University Invitational in Selinsgrove on Saturday, February 6.
