Munson Sets School Record in Shot Put at Monmouth Winter Collegiate Open

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. --- Graduate student Parker Munson set the school record in the shot put to lead the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Open Saturday.

Munson was fourth in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying toss of 15.70 meters (51-6.25), surpassing the previous school record by one and a quarter inches. The toss ranks 21st on the Track & Field Results Reporting System for NCAA Division III, and the top 15 males in each event will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships in March. Munson had another top 10 finish on Saturday as he placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 14.35 meters (47-1).

Freshman Denzel Pettway was eighth in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.84 meters (48-8.25) while senior Gavin Bailey placed fourth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 6.88 meters (22-7). Junior Kahron Walker was tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.89 meters (6-2.25) while senior Ryan Karnopp was ninth in the pole vault at 4.35 meters (14-3.25).

On the track for the men, junior Cory Taggert placed eighth in the mile run in 4:31.21 while junior Austin Gardener finished tenth in the 200-meter dash in 23.45 seconds. Freshman Peter Milewski placed ninth in the 5,000-meter run in 17:26.04 while senior Maxwell Korten was tenth in 17:46.86. Taggert and Bailey combined with senior Tyler Dwyer and sophomore Esco Blaylock combined to finish fifth in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:28.38.

The Greyhounds will have their final tune-up before the 2016 Landmark Conference Championships next Saturday with action at the Kutztown University Invitational on Saturday, February 20.
