Gardener Leads Greyhounds at Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track and field team competed at the Lehigh University Games Saturday afternoon in the last meet before the Landmark Conference Championships.

Pacing the men today was junior Austin Gardener, who took home first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.39. Gardener also grabbed second place in the 100-meter dash crossing the line with a time of 11.25 while sophomore Jamil Poole took ninth at 11.72 seconds. Also running well for the Greyhounds was sophomore Mike Kopach, who grabbed a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.69. Senior Tyler Dwyer raced in the 400-meter dash, capturing sixth place with a time of 50.86 while teammate junior Jordan Sweeney took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.69.

Racing against each other in the 110-meter hurdles were teammates freshman John Spirk and senior Ryan Sickler. Spirk won the battle between the two with a seventh place finish and time of 16.32 while Sickler grabbed 10th crossing the line shortly after at 16.72. Running in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was freshman Peter Milewski, who crossed the line at 10:24.79 for seventh place.

In the field events, graduate student Parker Munson led the way setting a new school record in the shot put with a put of 15.93m (52-3.25), which placed him third, qualifying him for ECACs and puts him just outside of the top-20 at 22nd in the Track & Field Results Reporting System as the top 20 men in each event heading to the NCAA Championships in late May. Also qualifying for ECACs was freshman Denzel Pettway, who tossed 14.71m (48-3.25) for eighth while junior Greg Cahill threw 13.43m (44-0.75) for 10th to round out the day in shot put. In the discus Munson finished fourth with an ECAC qualify toss of 45.55m (149-5.5) while Cahill grabbed 6th throwing 42.96m (140-11.5) and freshman Jon Anthony took 10th throwing 41.00m (134-6.5).

In the long jump senior Kyle Hagerty qualified for ECACs with a jump of 6.83m (22-5) giving him a third place in the event. In the high jump junior Kahron Walker took fourth place clearing a height of 1.89m (6-2.25). In the pole vault senior Ryan Karnopp cleared 4.41m (14-5.5) also for fourth place while freshman Scott Goodwin grabbed sixth with a height of 4.26m (13-11.75).

Up next for the Greyhounds will be the Landmark Conference Championship being help on Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8 at Juniata College.
