Bailey Finishes as Runner-Up in Long Jump at ECAC DIII Outdoor Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad finished in a tie for 34th of 53 teams at the 2016 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Westfield State (Massachusetts) University after the second day of action on Thursday.

The Greyhounds had eight points will all of them coming on a runner-up finish in the long jump by senior Gavin Bailey, who had a season-best mark of 7.13 meters (23-4.75). Bailey's distance moves him into 20th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list, and the top 20 males in each event will compete in next week's NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Wartburg (Iowa) College. The final field will be announced on Saturday, May 21 at 9:00 a.m. on NCAA.com once all of the final last chance meets are completed.

Graduate student Parker Munson reached the finals in the discus and placed ninth with a toss of 43.83 meters (143-9), and he also finished 11th in the shot put with a toss of 14.98 meters (49-1.75) while freshman Denzel Pettway tied for 19th in the shot put at 14.28 meters (46-10.25). Junior Kahron Walker was tied for 14th in the high jump at 1.91 meters (6-3.25).

On the track, junior Austin Gardener was 15th in the 200-meter dash in 22.38 seconds while the 4x100-meter relay squad of juniors Matt Barnett and Jamil Poole, sophomore Eric Morton and freshman Chris Antoine placed 30th in 44.04 seconds.

Moravian will find out on Saturday if Bailey will compete at the NCAA DIII Championships next week.
