Cahill Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for Men's Track & Field/Cross Country

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College junior Greg Cahill has been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

By making the All-District First Team, Cahill is now on the national ballot to try for CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades that will be announced on Wednesday, June 22. Moravian has had 43 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans®.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Beginning in 2011-12, the program is made up of four levels – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division (NAIA, Canadian colleges and junior colleges). District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania.

"Greg is another great example on our team of someone who is a true student-athlete," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He's strong in the classroom and has been involved with summer student research projects here. He's obviously done great athletically making ECACs and excelling at Landmarks as well. We're fortunate to have another year with Greg and expect him to be a big part of whatever success our program can achieve next year."

Cahill was named the 2016 Landmark Conference Indoor Men's Field Athlete of the Year after winning the weight throw with a meet record toss of 16.22 meters (53-2.75) to earn All-Conference First Team honors. Cahill was the runner-up in the shot put at 15.08 meters (49-5.75) for a spot on the All-Conference Second Team as he helped the Greyhounds to their seventh straight and eighth overall Landmark Conference Indoor Championship. He was also named to the 2016 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Team indoors after finishing in the top five of the weight throw in the Mideast Region on the final Track & Field Results Reporting System list for the season.

Even though he missed most of the outdoor season with an injury, Cahill returned in time to earn points in three events as Moravian won its eight Landmark Conference Outdoor Title. He earned All-Conference Second Team honors as the runner-up in the discus at 42.34 meters (138-11), and he also placed fifth in the hammer throw at 42.71 meters (140-1) and fifth in the shot put with a toss of 13.46 meters (44-2).

Cahill has won a total of three Landmark Conference individual titles in his career, capturing the weight throw indoors in 2015 and 2016 as well as the hammer throw outdoors in 2015. He is also a three-time runner-up at the conference meet, twice in the discus outdoors and once in the shot put indoors.

Cahill, who is majoring in economics with a minor in computer science to go with a 3.64 GPA, has been named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll four times during his career, and he has been on the Dean's List in five of his six semesters at Moravian. Cahill also works as a student photographer for Moravian's Sports Information Office.
