Two Hounds Hit ECAC Marks as Squad Begins Indoor Season at Lehigh Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team began its 2016-17 season in the non-scoring Lehigh University Opener at Rauch Fieldhouse Friday evening.

Senior Cory Taggert led the Hounds with a third place finish in 400-meter dash in a time of 51.86 seconds. Sophomore John Spirk had the Greyhounds only ECAC qualifying mark on the track as he finished 11th in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.68 seconds, and Spirk was also eighth in the 400-meter dash in 52.88 seconds. Taggert and Spirk combined with sophomore Mike Kopach and freshman Coulter Lewis for an eighth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:34.26.

Freshman Billy DiLolle was eighth in the 60-meter dash in 7.12 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second shy of the ECAC qualifying mark, and he was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 23.23 seconds. Senior Austin Gardener was seventh in the 200-meter dash in 23.24 seconds, and he finished 10th in the 60-meter dash in 7.15 seconds.

Senior Greg Cahill led the Greyhounds in the field events with a fifth place finish in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying toss of 14.45 meters (47-5). Cahill also placed fourth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.85 meters (45-2.25) while sophomore Jon Anthony was sixth in the event at 13.60 meters (44-7.5) and sophomore Hunter Gibson took 10th at 9.75 meters (32-0).

Sophomore tied for seventh in the pole vault at a height of 3.80 meters (12-5.5) while freshman Roland Cash was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 13.08 meters (42-11). Senior Kyle Hagerty was 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.26 meters (20-6.5).

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, December 9-10 when they return to Rauch Fieldhouse for the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals.
